Já agora, sou tentado a chamar a atenção do
Dr. Kissinger (secretário de Estado dos Estados
Unidos em 1974) para outro brasileiro, Daniel
Azulay. Fosse esse rapaz incumbido de colaborar
com ele para o entendimento entre árabes e judeus, os resultados
positivos viriam mais rápido. Daniel facilitaria a solução cordial
pelo desenho de humor. Seu álbum

joia com estusiástica e justa apresentação de Álvarus, é prova disto.
Lá estão fixados com igual mestria gráfica, e, direi, com a mesma
simpatia
narquoise
, habitantes típicos e conflitantes da Cidade
Santa. Artista antes de tudo, e em seguida observador atiladíssimo,
Daniel capta o essencial da figura humana, da postura, da
identidade física e sentimental do ser, e o faz com a graça filosófica
de quem sabe contemplar o vário espetáculo do mundo entre
sorridente e comovido. Não há irreverência, antes um divertido
sentimento poético, no tratamento que dá aos rabinos, por exemplo.

Already now, I am tempted to draw the attention of Mr. Kissinger
[then U.S. Secretary of State] to another Brazilian, Daniel Azulay. If
this young man were entrusted with collaborating with him for an
understanding between Arabs and Jews, the positive results would
come about faster. Daniel would facilitate the cordial solution, by
the humorous drawing. His album

, issued in a delightful
edition with an enthusiastic and deserved presentation by Álvarus,
is proof of this. Typical and conflicting inhabitants of the Holy City
are fixed there, with equal graphics representation mastery and, I’d
say, with the same mocking sympathy. An artist more than anything
else, and subsequently a highly judicious observer, Daniel captures
the essence of the human figure, of the stance, of the being’s physical
and sentimental identity, and does so with the philosophical grace of
one who knows how to contemplate the world’s variegated spectacle,
both smiling and moved. There is no irreverence,
but rather an amusing poetical sentiment in the
treatment accorded to the rabbis, for instance.
